Following the release of Small Talk in March, Soda Blonde have returned with their latest single In The Heat Of The Night. Taken from their highly anticipated new debut album Small Talk which is scheduled for release on July 9th. The second single from the Dublin 4-piece finds the group revisiting there by now signature blend of dark synth textures, powerful vocals, and intricate yet memorable melodies.
With an intro of brooding atmospheric synths and a wearisome refrain, In The Heat Of The Night shapes itself around an intense yet emotionally charged atmosphere. The opening lines of “I’ll be north you be south/you pulled me in as you got out” set the tone for the push and pull of a relationship battlefield, with vocalist Faye O’Rourke explaining the lyrics as “a song about conflict-and getting a kick out of it. The thrill of the fight”
Layering the melody with indie beats, a funk-inspired bassline and a barrage of synths, Soda Blonde create a dark wall of sound with the vocals adding an air of suspense and tension to the songs alluring air. These subtle cinematic sounds weave around hints of jangly guitars that melt together, producing an impressive sonic soundscape.
The perfect follow up to Small Talk; In The Heat Of The Night finds Soda Blonde band carving out their own distinct sound in the world of atmospheric pop, creating a bittersweet and unsettling single.
