Formed in 2017 post-punk/Alt-rock band Late Night Pharmacy have just released their new single Too Late For The Rickshaws.
The first release from the Dublin band since the release of their EP Flamingo (2019) expands on their influences of Joy Division, Interpol, and Mogwai with the band creating a bittersweet mid-tempo indie song. Recorded thanks to the generous funding from the Music Industry Stimulus Package (MISP) the band enlisted producer Aidan Cunningham (Wheatus, The Scratch, Nealo, Overhead the Albatross) to mix and produce their three new singles.
Written during Ireland’s second lockdown, the highly anticipated new single from the band was inspired by lead guitarist Fionn Murray’s conversation with two men who have struggled with drug addiction. Driven by chugging guitars and tetchy percussion Late Night Pharmacy have produced an edgier sound than their previous singles.
Too Late For The Rickshaws is a song filled with melody, anticipation, and rhythm with Rob Maguire’s hesitant conversational vocals carrying a dynamic and relentless air. A dark, gritty guitar sound runs through the verses, finally breaking as the song falls into the chorus. The atmosphere of the song changes slightly with layered vocal harmonies, chiming clean guitars, and shimmering synths creating an infectious indie melody.
A band not afraid to address the delicate issues of substance abuse and drug addiction that has been bubbling up in Irish society. Late Night Pharmacy not only give an honest view on socio-political issues but have sonically created a brilliant tune with stirring lyrics, a memorable chorus and fantastic dynamics!
